Statement from President Joe Biden on the December 2024 Jobs Report:

"With today’s report of 256,000 new jobs in December, we have created over 16.6 million jobs over the course of my administration and this is the only administration in history to have created jobs every single month. Although I inherited the worst economic crisis in decades with unemployment above 6% when I took office, we’ve had the lowest average unemployment rate of any administration in 50 years with unemployment at 4.1% as I leave. Although forecasts were projecting it would take years to achieve a full recovery, we have had the strongest growth and employment creation of any advanced country, brought inflation back down, and achieved the soft landing that few thought was possible..."

(Comment:) The new Trump admin. will probably overreach/deploy wacko extreme policies -- and 🀑inept people -- and mess up again, just like last time. >>>The first (of many) *"you were warned"* ...but it's actually also (ultimately) a ray of hope for the sane that remain: "Trump's MAGA allies gloat Project 2025 "is the agenda"' (Updated)

"...strong majorities of Americans express opposition to key tenets of the conservative playbook. ...Six in 10 of the survey’s respondents oppose eliminating the Department of Education and firing civil servants and replacing them with political appointees loyal to the president, a majority opposes cutting funding for renewable energy research and investment, and a whopping 74% oppose restricting women’s access to contraception. 11/17/24 addendum. AMEN:

Article excerpt:

"...Mr. Trump’s voters are granted a level of care and coddling that defies credulity and that is afforded to no other voting bloc. Many of them believe the most ludicrous things: babies being aborted after birth and children going to school as one gender and returning home surgically altered as another gender even though these things simply do not happen. Time and again, we hear the wild lies these voters believe and we act as if they are sharing the same reality as ours, as if they are making informed decisions about legitimate issues. We act as if they get to dictate the terms of political engagement on a foundation of fevered mendacity.

We must refuse to participate in a mass delusion. We must refuse to accept that the ignorance on display is a congenital condition rather than a choice. All of us should refuse to pretend that any of this is normal and that these voters are just woefully misunderstood and that if only the Democrats addressed their economic anxiety, they might vote differently. While they are numerous, that does not make them right.

These are adults, so let us treat them like adults. Let us acknowledge that they want to believe nonsense and conjecture. They want to believe anything that affirms their worldview. They want to celebrate a leader who allows them to nurture their basest beliefs about others. The biggest challenge of our lifetime will be figuring out how to combat the American willingness to embrace flagrant misinformation and bigotry."

....↓As of 11/20/24:

Article excerpt:

"Measured both by vote percentages and by raw votes, Trump’s margin of victory is modest, even compared with this century’s other close elections.

For votes counted through Nov. 20, Trump’s margin over Harris was 1.62%. That’s smaller than any winner since Bush in 2000, when the margin was 0.51%. Going back further, only John F. Kennedy in 1960 and Nixon in 1968 won the popular vote by smaller margins, 0.17% and 0.7%, respectively."

And: ↓Truth, vs. Republican GARBAGE:

(Article excerpt:)

"...In this multistage process of inflation’s arc, the American Rescue Plan played a minimal role. The stages would have occurred regardless of whether the plan was $2 trillion, $1 trillion or $500 billion. It simply takes a long time for economies to adjust to massive shocks like the pandemic.

This conclusion might strain credulity to those accustomed to hearing the typical mantra that fiscal excess triggered inflation. There are some common-sense pieces of evidence supporting our conclusion.

For starters, look across countries. If the American Rescue Plan caused inflation, we should see that countries that provided more of such covid relief experienced more inflation. Yet other countries, including Germany and Britain, did a lot less covid relief and experienced similar inflation to the United States...

A reposted 11/5/24 observation. The politics of hate and division won. U.S. democracy and the rule of law lost (again). (Updated)

(Commentary, including reposted material. Temporarily posted.)

"I keep thinking about the Supreme Court. Remember that these justices (including Trump’s three appointees) protected him from legal accountability for Jan. 6, blocking a trial that should have started and finished last spring. Should he win, Trump will fire Jack Smith and drop the Jan. 6 case as soon as he is inaugurated. In sum: Trump tried overturn a free and fair election by illegal and violent means, and because of John Roberts and his colleagues, not only will he never pay a price for it; he will be rewarded with another term."

Just a few rhetorical questions for all -- especially those who voted for Trump rule:

..We've apparently elected a convicted criminal/adjudicated sexual abuser to the U.S. presidency:

- Will basic, everyday laws 'on the books' still be enforced? Or, will those no longer 'really' matter anymore. (Or, will people need to be of only one political persuasion to get such help?)

..Hey: It generally doesn't seem to matter for at least one leading person in the U.S., who apparently has shown that he is likely above the law... E.g., in the future if I call the police about a crime (minor or major), will I get a response? An investigation?

- Will courts continue to try cases and render judgments, or does that also not 'really' matter anymore?

- Will convicted criminals continue to serve jail sentences, or doesn't that really matter anymore? (..At least in certain cases...)

P.S. One more: ...How does one explain all of this to one's children, if one is not trying to raise criminals/tyrants..?
